My name is Loraine Brown and I’m a Cert-qualified Equine Sports Massage Therapist, as well as having obtained BHS stages 1,2 and HNC in Equine Management
I am currently working on further accreditation to provide myofascial release, red light, Reiki, and, eventually, Therapeutic ultrasound therapy. Having spent several years within education, I have a fundamental appreciation for the necessity of continual CPD.
Having been involved with horses my entire life, growing up on a riding school, a few years as a professional polo groom and owning my own horses since a small child, competing in dressage and eventing.
I would love to share my journey of discovering the benefits of equine massage. I have always ridden, competed and been surrounded by many riders of different levels.
Since studying and training in massage, I have noticed a considerable amount of improvement not only on my own horses, but, as part of my training, I treat 10 horses for my case studies. They had over 200 hours of various therapeutic treatments, as well as training the owners in what they could do themselves in-between my visits. I was impressed that all the horses showed huge improvements, not only their flexibility but also their health, comfort and well-being after massage therapy.
The owners loved my treatments – the horse’s reaction and the positive changes they saw.
My desire to help other horse owners achieve the same positive experiences and changes as I have. I have seen the impact it can have on all types of horses: from happy hackers to the elite performance horses.
As part of my philosophy, I love sharing my knowledge and experience. I’m able to demonstrate to other riders the importance of massage therapy and the benefits, enabling them to understand how it can enhance their equine's performance and health. They can also see the improvements in the horse’s overall well-being a win- win for both.
What I do
I provide therapeutic massage treatment. Initially, this involves a full and thorough assessment of the horse’s physical condition. I try to understand not only the issues the horse has from the physical indications I have, but also from the owner/rider looking for signs of tension, discomfort or injury.
This involves observing movement, posture and stress points as well as the overall condition of the horse – its physiology and well as its mental state.
I use various techniques tailored to the individual horse’s needs. I try to ensure that the planned goal is the objective of the rider. This may mean a short or perhaps longer course of treatment. It will also include some maintenance techniques that are simple but effective that I can teach.
The core fundamental is addressing muscle tightness and imbalances; this helps prevent injuries, keeping the horse in optimal condition.
Massage also helps in the rehabilitation and recovery from injuries. This aids the process by promoting healing, reducing pain and restoring mobility.
Services offered.
These can be tailored specifically to the owners’ objectives, time available, age and condition of horse and of course, budget!
A happy horse is a happy owner!
